Urgent Primary Care (OOH)

Damian Crowley case study

Damian Crowley

Clinical practitioner

I'm in for the multidisciplinary team work.

My role as a clinical practitioner involves telephone triage to determine whether the patient needs an appointment; how urgently they need it; and if they should be signposted to A&E. If the patient does come into Urgent Primary Care, I will assess them, diagnose and treat them, or refer them to their GP.

I previously worked in the NHS as a nurse in secondary care but started to work in urgent primary care because it fitted around looking after my children. While I still work in Urgent Primary Care for this reason, I also enjoy it because I get to work closely with a multidisciplinary team of GPs, advanced paramedics, advanced nurses and health and social care workers, who wouldn’t usually work together.

For anyone who is thinking about working in Urgent Primary Care, I say come on board! The team is brilliant and we have a great learning environment. There are lots of opportunities to develop your skills and work across various roles.
